In 2005 I went on my first archaeological dig. The site was a few hundred meters inland from the Solway Firth in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. We weren’t finding much, so the journal I kept is mainly concerned with the characters on the dig, the wider landscape and the wildlife I came across. These observations are crowded into a four page tangle of text, diagrams, maps and illustrations.
